Tomris Kaya (born in 2001 in Ankara, Turkey) completed the Summer Filmmaking Workshop at Prague Film School in 2026, where she wrote and directed her second short film “Best, Andra” as her final project. During the program, she actively worked on several student film productions across different departments, gaining experience in a range of roles from assistant directing to sound recording. She graduated from Boğaziçi University with a B.A. in Turkish Language and Literature in 2025 and received an Associate Degree in Photography from Anadolu University in 2023.
During the pandemic, she worked as a coordinator at the Boğaziçi University Photography Club, where she took part in organizing online talks with prominent photographers from Turkey. Her photography works were also featured in the end-of-term exhibition of AFSAD’s “Photography Practices” workshop in 2023.
Through photography projects, home video practices, and short films, Tomris Kaya explores themes such as the possibilities of memory and the magic of being human. Her work seeks to connect personal narratives with cinematic expression, often blurring the boundaries between reality and dreams. In 2025, she wrote and directed her first short film, “The Occupation”, which explores the anxiety surrounding an abortion scare. Tomris Kaya continues her independent work in cinema and photography in Ankara while also working as a Turkish instructor for non-native speakers.
